The Metro G Line,{{cite web | url=https://www.metrotransit.org/g-line-project | title=G Line Project - Metro Transit }} previously known as the Robert Street Corridor, is a proposed bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor, from Little Canada to West Saint Paul via downtown Saint Paul on Rice and Robert Streets. Robert Street is named after Captain Louis Robert, an early resident of Saint Paul.Empson, Donald L. (2006). The Street Where You Live: A Guide to the Place Names of Saint Paul. University of Minnesota Press. p 232. {{ISBN|0-8166-4729-1}} {{ISBN|978-0-8166-4729-3}}. The corridor's population is expected to grow 45% and 27% more jobs are expected to come to the area from 2000 to 2030.{{cite web|title=Robert Street Corridor|url=http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/EnvironmentRoads/Transit/Robert/default.htm|publisher=Dakota County|accessdate=September 13, 2012|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120901221847/http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/EnvironmentRoads/Transit/Robert/default.htm|archivedate=September 1, 2012}} In the 2006 state bonding bill, $500,000 was set aside to study the feasibility of adding mass transit.{{cite news|last=Lindsay|first=Meggen|title=WISH LIST GRANTED -- SORT OF - MINNESOTA ZOO AND BUS LINE WIN, BUT PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER LOSES OUT|newspaper=Saint Paul Pioneer Press|date=May 25, 2006}} Robert Street, the south portion of the corridor, was also studied for light rail improvements.{{cite news|last=Berg|first=Steve|title=LRT or BRT? Engineering is slated to be complete by 2026, while the route itself will be constructed and opened in two phases to align with planned construction on Robert Street. The first segment is between Little Canada Transit Station and downtown, and will be constructed in 2026 and 2027. The second, southern segment to Dakota County Northern Service Center is set to be built by the end of 2028.{{Cite web |title=G Line Project - Metro Transit |url=https://www.metrotransit.org/g-line-project |access-date=2025-04-04 |website=www.metrotransit.org}}
