The Metropolitan Council of Lyon ({{Langx|fr|Conseil de la métropole de Lyon}}) is the deliberative assembly of the Lyon metropolis, a territorial collectivity with special status, made up of 150 metropolitan councilors.

History

Created on 1 January 2015, the metropolis of Lyon replaced the urban community of Lyon and, in its territory, the Rhône department. It exercises both the competencies of a department and those of a metropolitan area.{{Cite web|title=La loi MAPAM - La Métropole de Lyon|url=https://www.grandlyon.com/metropole/la-loi-mapam.html|access-date=2021-08-08|website=www.grandlyon.com}}

Since 2020, the city council, comprising 150 members{{Cite web|title=Elections métropolitaines 2020 / Elections locales / Elections politiques / Elections et citoyenneté / Politiques publiques / Accueil - Les services de l'État dans le Rhône|url=https://www.rhone.gouv.fr/Politiques-publiques/Elections-et-citoyennete/Elections-politiques/Elections-locales/Elections-metropolitaines-2020|access-date=2021-08-08|website=www.rhone.gouv.fr}} (instead of the 166 originally planned in the ministerial ordinance before its review in parliament),{{Cite web|title=Le Sénat limite à 150 le nombre de conseillers métropolitains de Lyon|url=https://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/auvergne-rhone-alpes/rhone/lyon/senat-limite-150-nombre-conseillers-metropolitains-lyon-729989.html|access-date=2021-08-08|website=France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes|language=fr-FR}} is elected at the same time as the municipal councils by direct universal suffrage{{Cite web|last=Darnault|first=Maïté|title=Métropole de Lyon Un suffrage universel direct inédit|url=https://www.liberation.fr/france/2020/02/10/metropole-de-lyonun-suffrage-universel-direct-inedit_1777920/|access-date=2021-08-08|website=Libération|language=fr}} within the framework of 14 electoral constituencies{{Cite web|title=Les circonscriptions métropolitaines|url=https://www.synergies-metropole.fr/presentation-metropole-lyon/les-circonscriptions/|access-date=2021-08-08|website=Synergies Métropole|language=fr-FR}} according to the voting method applicable to municipalities with more than 1,000 inhabitants.{{Cite web|title=Quel est le mode de scrutin pour les élections municipales dans les communes de 1 000 habitants et plus ?|url=https://www.vie-publique.fr/fiches/20204-municipales-quel-mode-de-scrutin-dans-les-communes-de-1000-hab-et-plus|access-date=2021-08-08|website=Vie publique.fr|language=fr}}

Headquarters

The headquarters of the city of Lyon is the same as that of the former urban community of Lyon: the building at 20 rue du Lac in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, in the district of La Part-Dieu.{{Cite web|title=Petit Bulletin LYON - Hôtel de la Métropole, 20 rue du Lac 69003 Lyon 3e - infos, horaires et programmation|url=https://www.petit-bulletin.fr/lyon/animations-connaitre-fiche-salle-9511-Hotel+de+la+Metropole.html|access-date=2021-08-08|website=www.petit-bulletin.fr}}{{Failed verification|date=September 2021}}
