Michał Horodecki (born 1973{{cite web |url=http://www.ifpan.edu.pl/ON-1/Indeks/Horodecki.html |title=Horodecki Michał |editor=Polish Academy of Sciences |access-date=2019-04-17 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190417140739/http://www.ifpan.edu.pl/ON-1/Indeks/Horodecki.html |archive-date=2019-04-17}}) is a Polish physicist at the University of Gdańsk working in the field of quantum information theory, notable for his work on entanglement theory.{{cite web|url=https://en.ug.edu.pl/uniwersytet/o_nas/wybitni_i_utalentowani/58005/prof_michal_horodecki_-_i_got_my_fascination_physics_family_home|title=Prof. Michał Horodecki – I got my fascination with physics from the family home|publisher=University of Gdańsk|access-date=19 December 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181220230311/https://en.ug.edu.pl/uniwersytet/o_nas/wybitni_i_utalentowani/58005/prof_michal_horodecki_-_i_got_my_fascination_physics_family_home |archive-date=2018-12-20}}

He co-discovered the Peres-Horodecki criterion for testing whether a state is entangled,{{Cite journal|last1=Horodecki|first1=Michał|last2=Horodecki|first2=Paweł|last3=Horodecki|first3=Ryszard|date=1996|title=Separability of mixed states: necessary and sufficient conditions|url=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S0375960196007062|journal=Physics Letters A|language=en|volume=223|issue=1–2|pages=1–8|doi=10.1016/S0375-9601(96)00706-2|arxiv=quant-ph/9605038|bibcode=1996PhLA..223....1H |s2cid=10580997 }} and used it to find bound entanglement together with his brother Paweł Horodecki and father Ryszard Horodecki. He co-discovered with Jonathan Oppenheim, Paweł Horodecki and Karol Horodecki that secret key can be drawn from some bound entangled states. Together with Fernando Brandao he proved that every one-dimensional quantum state with a finite correlation length obeys an area law for entanglement entropy. Together with Jonathan Oppenheim and Andreas Winter, he discovered quantum state-merging and used this primitive to show that quantum information could be negative.

2015 he was awarded the Minister of Science and Higher Education Awards of the Polish government.{{cite web |url=https://nauka.trojmiasto.pl/Profesorowie-z-Trojmiasta-nagrodzeni-w-Warszawie-n95323.html |title=Professors from the Tri-City recognized in Warsaw |work=trojmiasto.pl |date=2015-10-13 |language=pl |access-date=2023-11-02}}
