Michael Gavin (born March 30, 1986, in Scottsdale, Arizona) is a former American professional soccer player who featured for his teams as a left wing-back.

Career

=Youth, college and amateur=

Gavin attended Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he won the 2003 State Championship while being named an all-Region first-team and Defensive Player of the Year. He also played club soccer for the Sereno Golden Eagles with fellow future MLS players Brandon McDonald, Robbie Findley and Rob Valentino, where they were seven-time state champions and twice national runners-up. During this period, Gavin represented the Arizona State Olympic Development Team from 1998 to 2003.

However, professional scouts were drawn to Gavin's defensive prowess, as he was only shown 3 yellow cards during his college career.

During his college years Gavin spent two years with the Bradenton Academics of the USL Premier Development League.

=Professional=

Gavin was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy as the 4th overall pick in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft, and started the 2008 season as the team's first-choice left back.

Personal

Michael is the older brother of midfielder Blair Gavin. He resides with his wife and 3 children in Vernal, Utah.
