Career

Ruff grew up in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University. While she was there, she worked at a talent agency and attended a radio audition, which marked her first venture into the voiceover business.{{cite web|last=Benjamin|first=Miles|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120419163106/http://animeomnitude.com/interviews/michelle-ruff-interview|archive-date=April 19, 2012|url-status=dead|url=http://animeomnitude.com/interviews/michelle-ruff-interview|title=Michelle Ruff Interview|publisher=Anime Omnitude|access-date=November 6, 2011|year=2006}} In Chicago, she studied with Second City, Players Workshop and Improv Olympic.{{cite web|url=http://celebritytalentbooking.com/celebrity/michelle-ruff/|title=CELEBRITY: Michelle Ruff|work=Jeff Zannini Celebrity Talent|access-date=June 22, 2014|archive-date=December 3, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131203032534/http://celebritytalentbooking.com/celebrity/michelle-ruff/|url-status=dead}}

After moving to Los Angeles, she worked with some directors on looping and voice work for films and TV shows. In an Anime Dream interview, Ruff credits Richard Epcar, Steve Kramer and Michael Sorich for training her to dub anime.{{cite web | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090804052536/http://animedream.com/specials/michelleruff/interview_michelleruff.shtml | archive-date = August 4, 2009|url=http://animedream.com/specials/michelleruff/interview_michelleruff.shtml|title=Anime Dream – Interviews – Michelle Ruff|publisher=Anime Dream|date=November 7, 2002}} In the Digimon series, she was referred by director Mary Elizabeth McGlynn to audition for Lopmon and Antylamon in Digimon Tamers, and in Digimon Frontier, she landed the lead role of Zoe Orimoto. Ruff said that it was her first show that made it to TV, and a show that let her "work my acting muscle". She played tomboy-ish characters Miyao in Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran and Kiki Rosita in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.

In 2007, Ruff received two nominations for the American Anime Awards, one for Best Actress for her work in Bleach and Lupin the 3rd, and one for Best Actress in a Comedy for Lupin the 3rd, but lost to Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Debi Derryberry, respectively.[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2007-02-07/american-anime-awards-finalists-announced "American Anime Awards Finalists Announced"]. Liam O'Brien is a riot and a half as Fukuyama in this volume, and his character ought to go terrorize more girls just so we can hear that smarmy delivery. Lulu Chiang is similarly high-spirited in her role as Kirie, playing the uptight foil to Fukuyama.
