In the 1952 general election, he was the presidential candidate of the Federation of the Mexican People's Parties.{{sfn|Aguilar Plata|García|2006|p=80}}{{cite news|title=Miguel Henriquez Guzman, Sought to Govern Mexico|date=1972-08-30|newspaper=The New York Times|url=https://www.nytimes.com/1972/08/31/archives/miguel-henriquez-guzmani-i-sought-to-overn-mexico.html|accessdate=2024-03-16}} He won 579,745 votes, which was 15.87% of the popular vote. He came in second to the winner, Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, but his vote count was higher than {{ill|Efraín González Luna|es}} and Vicente Lombardo Toledano.{{sfn|Aguilar Plata|García|2006|p=86}}

After his loss, he retired from politics and devoted himself to studying Mexico's social problems. He died in Mexico City on August 29, 1972.
