Please add "cmn-latn" to the "prefixes" subtables of "pinyin", "tongyong" and "wadegile". These three codes refer to (Hanyu) Pinyin, Tongyong Pinyin and Wade–Giles; three different systems for transcribing Mandarin Chinese.

The code cmn is the specific language code for Mandarin Chinese, and without this change it's not possible to specify something like {{Lang|cmn-Latn-pinyin|some text}} (i.e. Mandarin Chinese written in Pinyin) without it giving an "unrecognized variant" error. ::@Trappist the monk That makes sense. I suspect IANA not allowing cmn-Latn as a prefix for pinyin, tongyong and wadegile is an oversight more than anything else, since zh is so much more common. I mostly edit on Wiktionary, where we need to distinguish between all the various Chinese lects, so I prefer to use cmn when talking about Mandarin specifically. That being said, the pinyin subtag itself seems a bit incoherent, since Tibetan pinyin is a completely different system. Theknightwho (talk) 23:06, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
