The Monastery of Iviron ({{lang-ka|ათონის ივერთა მონასტერი |tr}}; {{langx|el|Μονή Ιβήρων|Monḗ Ivirōn}}) is an Eastern Orthodox monastery in the monastic community of Mount Athos in northern Greece.
History
The monastery was built under the supervision of two Georgian monks, John the Iberian and John Tornike between AD 980–83 and housed Georgian clergy and priests. It was founded on the site of the former Monastery of Clement. John the Iberian was appointed as the abbot of the newly founded monastery in 980. In 1005, Euthymius the Iberian became the secondary abbot of Iviron Monastery.{{cite book | last=Speake | first=Graham | author-link=Graham Speake | title=Mount Athos: renewal in paradise | publisher=Denise Harvey | publication-place=Limni, Evia, Greece | date=2014 | isbn=978-960-7120-34-2 | oclc=903320491 | pages=52–53}} In Greek, Iviron literally means "of the Iberians". The monastery ranks third in the Athonite hierarchy of 20 sovereign monasteries.{{cite web|title=The administration of Mount Athos |url=http://www.mountathos.gr/active.aspx?mode=en%7B403b9a55-a81c-400d-a576-ef00e13fc586%7DView |access-date=2016-04-06 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160311090150/http://www.mountathos.gr/active.aspx?mode=en%7B403b9a55-a81c-400d-a576-ef00e13fc586%7DView |archive-date=2016-03-11 }}
