Wallen debuted with his single "The Way I Talk" in 2016, the single was later followed by "Up Down" in 2017, a collaboration with Florida Georgia Line. Others includes "Whiskey Glasses" and "Chasin' You", which would later appear in his debut studio album, If I Know Me in 2018. His second studio album Dangerous: The Double Album was released on January 8, 2021, and was followed by singles: "More Than My Hometown" and "7 Summers" which peaked at number 15 on Country Airplay chart following the withdrawal of Wallen's music from various radio stations caused by the 2021 leak of his video where he used a racial slur.{{Cite magazine|title=Morgan Wallen's Music Removed From iHeart's Radio Stations and Others Following Racial Slur|url=https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/country/9520243/morgan-wallen-removed-iheartradio-cumulus-racial-slur-fallout/|access-date=February 3, 2021|magazine=Billboard}}{{cite magazine |last=Willman |first=Chris |date=February 3, 2021 |title=Morgan Wallen Disqualified by Academy of Country Music for Upcoming Awards; One-Day Airplay Down 80% |url=https://variety.com/2021/music/news/morgan-wallen-disqualified-acm-awards-cma-radio-play-drops-1234899952/ |accessdate=February 4, 2021 |magazine=Variety}} After radio stations reinstated his music, Wallen released "Sand in My Boots" and "Wasted on You". Wallen's third studio album, One Thing at a Time, was released in 2023 and in its first 12 weeks, atop the Billboard 200 of its total 19 weeks atop the chart, and its first three singles: "You Proof", "Thought You Should Know" and "Last Night" which topped both the Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs chart.
On January 26, 2024, Panacea Records released a deluxe 10th anniversary edition of Wallen's 2015 EP Stand Alone that included eight unreleased songs. He simultaneously released an acoustic version of the Stand Alone song "Spin You Around" entitled "Spin You Around (1/24)", which topped the Country Digital Song Sales chart the following week.{{Cite magazine |last=McIntyre |first=Hugh |title=Morgan Wallen Charts A Reluctant New No. 1 Hit |url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2024/02/09/morgan-wallen-charts-a-reluctant-new-no-1-hit/ |access-date=May 14, 2024 |magazine=Forbes}} On May 10, 2024, Wallen was featured on Post Malone's single "I Had Some Help".
