Mototate Station is located on the Uetsu Main Line, stretching from {{STN|Niitsu|x}} to {{STN|Akita|x}}, and is located 173.3 rail kilometers from the terminus of the line at Niitsu Station. The station is served by local services operating between {{STN|Sakata|x|Yamagata}} and Akita, with some services starting or terminating at {{STN|Fukura|x}}. The station consists of two opposed side platforms serving two tracks. The two platforms are linked by a footbridge. The station is unattended.
