This treatise, written some sixty years after the death of Ash'ari, represents an invaluable source of information on the thought of one of Islam's greatest theologians.}} It contains several topics on theological issues in Islam, and other topics that are fundamentals in dialogue, such as demonstration, refutation, evidence and citation. Towards the end of the book is a chapter dedicated to the ethics of disputation (adab al-jadal).{{cite book|author1=Alwani Ghazali|author2=Muhammad Kamal|title=Interreligious Dialogue Models: From the Life of the Prophet Muhammad|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=tCXpEAAAQBAJ|series=Routledge Studies in Religion|publisher=Taylor & Francis|publication-date=2023|isbn=9781003812067|page=15}}
Notes
- Ibn Fūrak adopted al-Ash'ari's school of theology and was well informed of al-Ash'ari's views. This is because Ibn Fūrak learnt from two of al-Ash'ari's close companions and disciples, namely {{ill|Abu al-Hasan al-Bahili|ar|أبو الحسن الباهلي}} (d. ca. 370/980) and {{ill|Abu 'Abd Allah b. Mujahid al-Ta'i|ar|أبو عبد الله بن مجاهد الطائي}} (d. 360s/970s or 370s/980s). In addition, he had recourse to all of al-Ash'ari's books.{{cite journal|editor1=Abdullatif Ahmadi Ramchahi|editor2=Monika @ Munirah Abd Razzak|editor3=Iman Najim Khalaf|editor4=Soraya Daryanavard|title=Ibn Fūrak’s Methodology in Transforming the Ash’arite School into a Dialectical-Theological School|url=https://ejournal.um.edu.my/index.php/JUD/article/view/7524|journal=Journal of Usuluddin|date=2016|volume=43|pages=171–182|publisher=Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya|doi=10.22452/usuluddin.vol43no1.7}}
