Development

The Rebel is a STOL aircraft and was designed to be a personal-use bush plane. It can operate from short, unimproved airstrips and can carry a useful load of up to 750 lbs.{{cite web|url = http://www.murphyair.com/murphyair/Aircraft/Rebel/RebelPerf.html|title = Murphy Rebel Performance|accessdate = 2008-08-01|last = Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing |authorlink = |year = 2007 |archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20080731223506/http://www.murphyair.com/murphyair/Aircraft/Rebel/RebelPerf.html |archivedate = 2008-07-31}}

The aircraft features a strut-braced high-wing, a two or three seat enclosed cabin accesses via doors, fixed conventional landing gear and a single engine in tractor configuration. The aircraft is made from sheet aluminum. Its {{convert|30.0|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} span wing employs a NACA 4415 mod airfoil, has an area of {{convert|149|sqft|m2|abbr=on}} and is equipped with flaps.{{Cite web|url = http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html|title = The Incomplete Guide to Airfoil Usage|accessdate = 3 January 2012|last = Lednicer|first = David|authorlink = |year = 2010|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20100420012244/http://www.ae.illinois.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html|archive-date = 20 April 2010|url-status = dead}}

The recommended engines for the Rebel are the {{convert|160|hp|abbr=on}} Lycoming O-320, the {{convert|116|hp|abbr=on}} Lycoming O-235 and the {{convert|80|hp|abbr=on}} Rotax 912, although Bayerl et al. note that the aircraft does not perform well with less than {{convert|100|hp|abbr=on}}.
