Murtas Kazhgaleyev ({{langx|kk|Мұртас Мұратұлы Қажығалиев|Mūrtas Mūratūly Qajyğaliev}}; born 17 November 1973) is a Kazakhstani chess player who received the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM) in 1998.

Chess career

In 2004, he tied for first with Slim Belkhodja in the 27th Syre Memorial in Issy les Moulineaux.{{cite web |url=https://theweekinchess.com/html/twic500.html#11 |title=TWIC 500: 27th Syre Memorial |last=Crowther |first=Mark |date=2004-06-07 |publisher=London Chess Center |accessdate=1 January 2010}} Kazhgaleyev competed in the Chess World Cup 2005: he knocked out Evgeny Alekseev in the first round to reach round two, losing to Teimour Radjabov and thus exiting the competition.

In 2007 he tied for 3rd–9th with Dmitry Svetushkin, Vladimir Malakhov, Evgeny Vorobiov, Pavel Smirnov, Vladimir Dobrov and Aleksej Aleksandrov in the 3rd Moscow Open tournament.{{cite web |url=http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=3655 |title=Illya Nyzhnyk wins Group B in Moscow Open |date=2007-02-07 |publisher=ChessBase |accessdate=18 May 2010}} At the 2007 Asian Indoor Games, which took place in Macau, Kazhgaleyev won two silver medals, in the men's individual classical tournament and in the men's individual rapid event.
