The river is often used for recreational kayaking. There being no road access, however, boaters must carry their kayaks up to the river. Memurubu itself is a popular starting point for hikers wishing to travel across Besseggen.{{Cite encyclopedia |title=Memurubu |encyclopedia=Store norske leksikon |publisher=Kunnskapsforlaget |url=https://snl.no/Memurubu |date=2021-01-03 |editor-last=Lauritzen |editor-first=Per Roger |language=Norwegian |accessdate=2022-05-02}}
