Mycobacteroides salmoniphilum (formerly Mycobacterium salmoniphilum) is a species of bacteria from the phylum Actinomycetota belonging to the genus Mycobacteroides. It was first identified as the causative agent of mycobacteriosis in chinook salmon and steelhead trout, but has since been found to cause disease in Atlantic cod,{{cite journal | vauthors = Zerihun MA, Colquhoun DJ, Poppe TT | title = Experimental mycobacteriosis in Atlantic cod, Gadus morhua L. | journal = J Fish Dis | year = 2012 | volume = 35 | issue = 5 | pages = 365–77 | doi = 10.1111/j.1365-2761.2012.01349.x | pmid = 22404316}} Atlantic salmon,{{cite journal | vauthors = Zerihun MA, Nilsen H, Hodneland S, Colquhoun DJ | title = Mycobacterium salmoniphilum infection in farmed Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L | journal = J Fish Dis | year = 2011 | volume = 34 | issue = 10 | pages = 769–81 | doi = 10.1111/j.1365-2761.2011.01293.x | pmid = 21916902}}{{cite journal | vauthors = Aro L, Correa K, Martínez A, Ildefonso R, ((Yáñez JM.)) | title = Characterization of Mycobacterium salmoniphilum as causal agent of mycobacteriosis in Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., from a freshwater recirculation system | journal = J Fish Dis | year = 2014 | volume = 37 | issue = 4 | pages = 341–8 | doi = 10.1111/jfd.12108 | pmid = 23952471}} burbot,{{cite journal | vauthors = Zerihun MA, Berg V, Lyche JL, Colquhoun DJ, Poppe TT | title = Mycobacterium salmoniphilum infection in burbot Lota lota | journal = Dis Aquat Organ | year = 2011 | volume = 95 | issue = 1 | pages = 57–64 | doi = 10.3354/dao02347 | pmid = 21797036| doi-access = free }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Berg V, Zerihun MA, Jorgensen A, Lie E, Dale OB, Skaare JU, Lyche JL | year = 2013 | title = High prevalence of infections and pathological changes in burbot (Lota lota) from a polluted lake (Lake Mjosa, Norway) | journal = Chemosphere | volume = 90 | issue = 5 | pages = 1711–1718 | doi = 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2012.10.017 | pmid = 23149183| bibcode = 2013Chmsp..90.1711B }} coho salmon,{{cite journal | vauthors = Behra PR, Das S, Pettersson BM, Shirreff L, DuCote T, Jacobsson KG, Ennis DG, Kirsebom LA | title = Extended insight into the Mycobacterium chelonaeabscessus complex through whole genome sequencing of Mycobacterium salmoniphilum outbreak and Mycobacterium salmoniphilum-like strains | journal = Scientific Reports | volume = 9 | pages = 4603 | year = 2019| issue = 1 | doi = 10.1038/s41598-019-40922-x | pmid = 30872669 | pmc = 6418233 | bibcode = 2019NatSR...9.4603B }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Suarez R, Kusch K, Miranda CD, Li T, Campanini J, Behra PR, Aro L, Martínez A, Godoy M, Medina DA | title = Whole-Genome sequencing and comparative genomics of Mycobacterium spp. from farmed Atlantic and coho salmon in Chile | journal = Antonie van Leeuwenhoek | year = 2021 | volume = 114 | issue = 9 | pages = 1323–1336 | doi = 10.1007/s10482-021-01592-w | pmid = 34052985 | pmc = 8379129}} freshwater ornamental fish,{{cite journal | vauthors = Puk K, Guz L | title = Occurrence of Mycobacterium spp. in ornamental fish | journal = Ann Agric Environ Med | year = 2020 | volume = 27 | issue = 4 | pages = 535–539 | doi = 10.26444/aaem/114913 | pmid = 33356057| s2cid = 210143906 | doi-access = free }} and Russian sturgeon.{{cite journal | vauthors = Righetti M, Favaro L, Antuofermo E, Caffara N, Nuvoli S, Scanzio T, Prearo M | title = Mycobacterium salmoniphilum infection in a farmed Russian sturgeon, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii (Brandt & Ratzeburg) | journal = J Fish Dis | year = 2014 | volume = 37 | issue = 7 | pages = 671–4 | doi = 10.1111/jfd.12143 | pmid = 23952784| hdl = 2318/139015 | hdl-access = free }} It has also been isolated from tap water.{{cite journal | vauthors = van Ingen J, Blaak H, de Beer J, ((de Roda Husman AM)), ((van Soolingen D.)) | year = 2010 | title = Rapidly growing nontuberculous mycobacteria cultured from home tap and shower water | journal = Appl.
