Mycterosuchus is an extinct genus of teleosaurid crocodyliform from the Middle Jurassic (Callovian) of England. Although previously synonymized with Steneosaurus, recent cladistic analysis considers it distantly related to the Steneosaurus type species.Ősi A, Young MT, Galácz A, Rabi M. The name Mycterosuchus was coined for Steneosaurus nasutus by Andrews in 1913 in his catalogue of thalattosuchians from the Oxford Clay of southern England.Andrews CW. 1913. A descriptive catalogue of the marine reptiles of the Oxford Clay, Part Two. London: British Museum (Natural History), 206 pp. The genus name is derived from the Latin word for nose (mycto) and the Greek word for crocodile ({{transliteration|grc|soukhos}}), together meaning {{gloss|(long) nose crocodile}}.{{cite journal|last1=Johnson|first1=M.M.|last2=Young|first2=M.T.|last3=Brusatte|first3=S.L.|year=2020|title=The phylogenetics of Teleosauroidea (Crocodylomorpha, Thalattosuchia) and implications for their ecology and evolution|journal=PeerJ|volume=8|pages=e9808|doi=10.7717/peerj.9808|doi-access=free |pmid=33083104 |pmc=7548081 }} Mycterosuchus nasutus was synonymized with Steneosaurus leedsi by Adams-Tresmand in 1987, but is recovered as a distinct species in the cladistic analysis of Osi et al. of 2018.S.
