Näljänkä ({{IPA|fi|ˈnæljæŋkæ}}) is a small village in the Suomussalmi municipality in Kainuu, Finland. It is located about {{convert|50|km}} north of the municipal centre, Ämmänsaari, and its most important road connection is regional road 800 between Ylivieska and Taivalkoski, which runs through the village.{{cite web|url=https://www.mattigronroos.fi/w/index.php/Seututie_800|title=Seututie 800|website=mattigronroos.fi|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}}

The name of the village is of Sámi origin, which means "fourth". In this case, this ordinal number can mean either {{ill|Lake Näljänkä|fi|Näljänkäjärvi}} (Näljänkäjärvi), which is the fourth lake in its watershed from the main lake, or the four swamps surrounding the village.{{cite web|url=https://www.kainuunnuotta.net/fi/naljanka/|title=Näljänkä - kylä Ylä-Kainuussa|website=kainuunnuotta.net|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}}

The village has its own church, {{ill|Näljänkä Church|fi|Näljängän kirkko}}, which was completed in 1981; in April 2020, Suomussalmi parish put the church building up for sale.{{cite web|url=https://www.is.fi/taloussanomat/oma-raha/art-2000006477391.html|title=Kainuulainen seurakunta myy vastaremontoidun kirkkonsa asuinkäyttöön – korkein tarjous vain 10 000 euroa|last=Moliis|first=Pekka|date=17 April 2020|work=Ilta-Sanomat|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}}{{cite web|url=https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-11318761|title=Suomussalmen seurakunta myy Näljängän kirkkoa huutokaupalla vaikka asunnoksi– Vuokin kirkko aiotaan lahjoittaa kyläyhdistykselle|date=23 April 2020|work=Yle|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}} There have been three former schools in the village, which have now been closed down: Leinola school founded in 1925, Niva school founded in 1927 and Kurkikylä folk school founded in 1945.{{cite web|url=http://suomussalmenkylakoulut.com/kylakoulut-esittelyssa/|title=Kyläkoulut esittelyssä|last=Hukkanen|first=Jarmo|publisher=Suomussalmen kyläkoulut -sivusto|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}} One of the transportation points of the defunct Taivalkoski line, the Leino railway station, was located {{convert|8|km}} east of the village.{{cite book|last=Iltanen|first=Jussi|title=Radan varrella|page=374|year=2009|publisher=Karttakeskus|isbn=978-951-593-214-3|language=fi}}{{cite web|url=http://vaunut.org/kuvasivu/14261|title=Leino|website=vaunut.org|access-date=16 May 2023|language=fi}}
