NGC 1310 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the southern constellation of Fornax. It was discovered by English astronomer John Herschel on 22 October 1835.{{cite web|author=Seligman, Courtney|url=https://cseligman.com/text/atlas/ngc13.htm#1310|title=New General Catalog Objects: NGC 1300 - 1349|website=cseligman.com|accessdate=2021-02-05}}

At a distance of 72 million light-years (22 Mpc) away from the Sun, NGC 1310 is a member of the Fornax A subgroup of the Fornax Cluster of galaxies.

One supernova has been observed in NGC 1310: SN 1965J was discovered by Gibson Reaves on 31 August 1965.{{cite journal | doi = 10.1086/128398 | doi-access=free | title = The 1965 Palomar Supernova Search | date = 1966 | last1 = Zwicky | first1 = F. | journal = Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific | volume = 78 | issue = 465 | page = 471 | bibcode = 1966PASP...78..471Z}}{{cite web | website=Transient Name Server | title=SN{{nbsp}}1965J | url=https://www.wis-tns.org/object/1965J | publisher = IAU | access-date=1 December 2024}} It was about 14 arcseconds east and 7 arcseconds south of the center of the galaxy.{{cite simbad|title=SN 1965J|accessdate=2021-02-05}}
