NGC 338 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. Its velocity with respect to the cosmic microwave background is 4479 ± 22{{nbsp}}km/s, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of {{convert|66.07 ± 4.64|Mpc|Mly|abbr=on|lk=on|order=flip}}. In addition, 22 non-redshift measurements give a distance of {{convert|68.545 ± 1.544|Mpc|Mly|abbr=on|lk=on|order=flip}}.{{cite web | url = https://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nDistance?name=NGC+1285 | title = Distance Results for NGC{{nbsp}}1285 | website = NASA/IPAC EXTRAGALACTIC DATABASE | publisher = NASA | access-date = 18 November 2024}} It was discovered in 1877 by Wilhelm Tempel. It was described by Dreyer as "very faint, very small, irregular figure, brighter middle."{{cite web|title=New General Catalog Objects: NGC 300 - 349|url=http://cseligman.com/text/atlas/ngc3.htm#338|publisher=Cseligman|access-date=November 3, 2016}}
