NGC 6286 is an interacting spiral galaxy located in the constellation Draco. It is designated as Sb/P in the galaxy morphological classification scheme and was discovered by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift on 13 August 1885. NGC 6286 is located at about 252 million light years away from Earth. NGC 6286 and NGC 6285 form a pair of interacting galaxies, with tidal distortions, categorized as Arp 293 in the Arp Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies.{{cite web|title=Object No. 1 – NGC 6286|url=http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/objsearch?objname=NGC+6286&extend=no&hconst=73&omegam=0.27&omegav=0.73&corr_z=1&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES|publisher=NASA/IPAC|access-date=4 October 2015}}{{cite web|title=Revised NGC Data for NGC 6286|url=http://spider.seds.org/ngc/revngcic.cgi?NGC6286|website=Seds|access-date=4 October 2015}}{{cite web|title=NGC 6286 (= PGC 59352, and with NGC 6285 = Arp 293)|url=http://cseligman.com/text/atlas/ngc62a.htm#6286|website=cseligman|access-date=4 October 2015}}{{cite web|title=NGC 6286 & NGC 6285|url=http://www.pbase.com/jshuder/image/153825917|website=PBase|access-date=4 October 2015}}
