NGC 766 is an elliptical galaxy located in the Pisces constellation about 362 million light years from the Milky Way. It was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel in 1828.{{Cite web|url=https://in-the-sky.org/data/object.php?id=NGC766|title=The galaxy NGC 766 - In-The-Sky.org|last=Ford|first=Dominic|website=in-the-sky.org|language=en|access-date=2020-03-30}}{{Cite web|url=http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=ngc+766&img_stamp=YES|title=Your NED Search Results|website=ned.ipac.caltech.edu|access-date=2020-03-30}}{{Cite web|url=http://spider.seds.org/ngc/revngcic.cgi?NGC766|title=Revised NGC Data for NGC 766|website=spider.seds.org|access-date=2020-03-30}}

Due to NGC 766 being situated close to the celestial equator it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year.{{Cite web|title=NGC 766 - Elliptical Galaxy {{!}} TheSkyLive.com|url=https://theskylive.com/sky/deepsky/ngc766-object|access-date=2020-12-04|website=theskylive.com}}
