Overview

It was created in 1931 as a predominantly educational station, since there were only three stations in 1939, the existing Tokyo station as well as the Osaka and Nagoya stations adopted the name "City Broadcasting". Broadcasts were suspended in December 1941 due to the Pacific War, but were resumed on September 1, 1945 after the end of the war and Japan's surrender.“Chronology of Japanese Media History” (January 1, 2018, published by Yoshikawa Kobunkan, written by Reiko Tsuchiya), page 156.

Planned closure

It has been suggested that NHK Radio 2 will shut down and the AM network will be reduced to one network.{{Cite web|url = https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2020080400844&g=soc|title = NHK、衛星2波に半減 AMラジオ統合―受信料一本化検討|website = www.jiji.com|publisher =Jiji Press|date = 2020-08-04| archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200804082915/https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2020080400844&g=soc |accessdate = 2020-11-03| archive-date=4 August 2020 }}[https://web.archive.org/web/20200803131726/https://this.kiji.is/663007863903667297 NHK、AMラジオとBS削減へ 肥大化批判受け]共同通信2020年8月3日 On January 13, 2021, NHK drafted a plan aiming at the 2025 fiscal year.
