Release and reception

Namma Kuzhandaigal was released on 27 February 1970. The Indian Express said the following day, "To inculcate values prudence, simplicity and honesty in children the movie has meandered into three tracts. Even so the first half of the film is very gripping. In the second half there are many unnecessary incidents and characters not related to the children's film. If one can ignore these it is recommendable film. The attempt is laudable."{{Cite news |date=28 February 1970 |title=Cinema |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=P9oYG7HA76QC&dat=19700228&printsec=frontpage&hl=en |access-date=26 November 2018 |work=The Indian Express |location=Madras |pages=12 |via=Google News Archive}}{{cbignore}} At the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, the film won the following awards: Best Story Writer for Poovannan,{{Cite news |date=12 January 2013 |title=Poovannan dead |url=https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/poovannan-dead/article4300781.ece |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140408061638/http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/poovannan-dead/article4300781.ece |archive-date=8 April 2014 |access-date=26 November 2018 |work=The Hindu}} Third Best Film,{{Cite book |last=Anandan |first=Film News |author-link=Film News Anandan |title=Sadhanaigal Padaitha Thamizh Thiraipada Varalaru |publisher=Sivagami Publications |year=2004 |pages=7–19 |language=Tamil |trans-title=Tamil film history and its achievements}}{{Cite book |last=Ettirājan̲ |first=Je |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=WMczAAAAMAAJ |title=Varalār̲u paṭaittavar varalār̲u: Ṭākṭar Pūvaṇṇan̲in̲ vāl̲kkai varalār̲u |date=1988 |publisher=Kul̲antai Ilakkiyak Kal̲akam |pages=117 |language=ta}} and Best Female Playback Singer for S.
