Nancy Borowick (born 1985, Chappaqua, New York) is an American artist, photographer, and author. She studied photography at the International Center of Photography, and her work primarily documents family structures and personal histories to dissect how humans interact with, grieve, and memorialize loved ones.{{Cite web|url=https://www.latimes.com/visuals/photography/la-me-fw-nancy-borowick-qa-20170518-htmlstory.html|title=Photographer Nancy Borowick's book chronicling her parents' final days is her 'love letter' to them|last=Short|first=Alice|website=The Los Angeles Times|date=May 18, 2017|access-date=2019-03-03}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.interviewmagazine.com/art/nancy-borowick-faces-of-2017|title=The Photo-essayist|date=2016-12-27|website=Interview Magazine|language=en-US|access-date=2019-03-03}} Her book The Family Imprint (2017) uses documentary photography and ephemera to tell the story of her parents who were both diagnosed with stage-four cancer and died within a year of each other.{{r|latimes}} Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad.

''The Family Imprint''

Borowick's project The Family Imprint began as a project at the International Center of Photography as she documented her mother who was diagnosed with stage-four cancer.{{r|latimes}} The photographs mostly depict her parents in various stages of diagnosis, delight, joy, sadness, Borowick's own wedding, and her parents' funerals.{{Cite web|url=https://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/18/side-by-side-battling-cancer-and-sending-off-the-bride/|title=Side by Side, Battling Cancer and Sending Off the Bride|last=Winerip|first=Michael|date=2013-10-18|website=Lens Blog|language=en-US|access-date=2019-03-03}} Borowick found difficulty in getting publishers interested in printing the book—many of which found the topic and the work too dark or solemn.{{Cite news|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/i-was-with-my-parents-as-they-died-of-cancer-my-camera-helped-me-through-it/2017/08/18/34effb5a-82a6-11e7-ab27-1a21a8e006ab_story.html|title=I was with my parents as they died of cancer.
