Nax is first mentioned around 1001-1100 as Nas. Its village church collapsed in 1909 during a service, killing 31 and injuring 50.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 1.8% and transportation infrastructure made up 0.9%. Out of the forested land, 29.2% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees.
