Neocomitidae is a family of Lower Cretaceous ammonitids comprising genera with strongly ribbed evolute (all whorls exposed) to smooth, fairly involute (inner whorls mostly hidden) shells.{{aut|Wright, C. W.}} with {{aut|Callomon, J.H.}} and {{aut|Howarth, M.K.}} (1996), Mollusca 4 Revised, Cretaceous Ammonoidea, vol. 4, in Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, Part L (Roger L. Kaesler ed.), Boulder, Colorado: The Geological Society of America & Lawrence, Kansas: University of Kansas Press, 49-67.

In the 1957 description of the family{{cite book| first1=W.J. |last1=Arkell |first2=B. |last2=Kummel |first3=C.W. |last3=Wright |series=Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, Part L, Mollusca 4| title=Mesozoic Ammonoidea | publisher=Geological Society of America and University of Kansas Press |location=Lawrence, Kansas|year=1957}} Neocomitidae was regarded as the subfamily Neocomitinae within the Berriasellidae, a family within the Perisphinctoidea that ranged from the Late Jurassic into the Early Cretaceous. In a more recent treatment [https://paleobiodb.org/classic/checkTaxonInfo?taxon_no=64671 the Paleobiology database Neocomitidae entry] accessed April 2013 berriaselids are regarded as a subfamily within the Neocomitidae.

Current opinion differs from the 1967 placement of Neocomitidae in the Perisphinctoidea but rather includes it in the superfamily Endemoceratoidea.[http://www.jsdammonites.fr/625.html Taxonomy jsdammonites][http://crioceratites.free.fr/neocomitidae.htm Ammonites, taxa]
