Nepenthes mindanaoensis belongs to the informal "N. alata group", which also includes N. alata, N. ceciliae, N. copelandii, N. extincta, N. graciliflora, N. hamiguitanensis, N. kitanglad, N. kurata, N. leyte, N. negros, N. ramos, N. saranganiensis, and N. ultra.Cheek, M. & M.
