History

The first president of the New York Recorder Guild was Bernard Krainis; Martha Bixler was appointed vice-president and, one year later in 1961, music director. By 1972, the group had 185 members and organized rehearsals monthly with rotating conductors. In the late 1970s, the group moved into offices shared with its parent organization, the American Recorder Society, at 12 East 16th Street, New York, NY.{{Cite book |last=Bixler |first=Martha |url=https://americanrecorder.org/docs/ARS-And-Me-140820_FINAL-2.pdf |title=The American Recorder Society and Me...a memoir |year=2014 |pages=90}} They published the Early Music Newsletter regularly from 1977 through 1991.{{Cite web |title=Subject Heading "New York Recorder Guild Periodicals" |url=https://www.nypl.org/research/research-catalog |access-date=2024-02-22 |website=Research Catalog {{!}} NYPL |language=en}}{{Cite web |title=RILM Abstracts of Music Literature: Database Coverage List: Music Journals |url=https://www.rilm.org/resources.php?product=ram&type=music |access-date=2024-02-22 |website=www.rilm.org}} NYRG organized performances at St. Peter's Episcopal Church{{Cite news |title=Arts and Leisure Guide; Of Special Interest |url=http://timesmachine.nytimes.comhttp//timesmachine.content-tagging.us-east-1-01.prd.dvsp.nyt.net/timesmachine/1979/04/22/111706595.html?pageNumber=144 |access-date=2024-02-22 |work=The New York Times |language=en}}{{Cite journal |date=May 14, 1979 |title=Around Town |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=utYCAAAAMBAJ&dq=%22new+york+recorder+guild%22&pg=PP1 |journal=New York Magazine |volume=12 |issue=20 |pages=24 |via=Google Books}} and Columbia University.{{Cite news |title=COPING; Three Into Two Did Go |url=http://timesmachine.nytimes.comhttp//timesmachine.content-tagging.us-east-1-01.prd.dvsp.nyt.net/timesmachine/1998/06/07/279420.html?pageNumber=203 |access-date=2024-02-22 |work=The New York Times |language=en}}
