Potts made his first-class debut on 14 April 2022, for Derbyshire against Sussex in Division Two of the 2022 County Championship.{{cite web|url=https://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/1297679.html |title=Derby, April 14 - 17, 2022, County Championship Division Two |work=ESPN Cricinfo |access-date=18 April 2022}} Electing to bat first, Derbyshire made 505/8 in their innings before declaring, with Potts scoring nine runs.
