World premieres

Locations

The NCO has its main venue at Shea's Performing Arts Center in the Theater District in downtown Buffalo, which is one of the big opera houses in the United States. The locations at which NCO has been staging opera and other performances have included Shea's Performing Arts Center (3,019 seats), Riviera Theatre (1140 seats), Artpark Mainstage Theatre (2.400 seats), Artpark Amphitheatre (4.400 seats), and Nicholas Flickinger Performing Arts Center (460 seats).

The NCO's main venue, Shea's Performing Arts Center was designed by the well-known Chicago firm, Rapp and Rapp. The original number of 4,000 seats was reduced to the current number of 3,019 seats in the 1930s. The interior was designed by world-renowned designer/artist Louis Comfort Tiffany using elements that are mostly still present today.
