Before leaving for school that morning, he checked on her because she had recently been hospitalized, and found her on her bedroom floor. After calling paramedics, he performed CPR on her but she was to succumb later at the hospital from heart failure.{{Cite web |last=Thiry |first=Lindsey |date=January 17, 2019 |title=Years of sorrow haven't taken everything from Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman |url=https://www.espn.com/blog/los-angeles-rams/post/_/id/39705/lifetime-of-sorrow-hasnt-taken-everything-from-rams-cb-nickell-robey-coleman |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210107174336/https://www.espn.com/blog/los-angeles-rams/post/_/id/39705/lifetime-of-sorrow-hasnt-taken-everything-from-rams-cb-nickell-robey-coleman |archive-date=January 7, 2021 |access-date=January 4, 2021 |website=ESPN.com}}
