It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Nielisz.{{TERYT}} It lies approximately {{convert|18|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} north-west of Zamość and {{convert|60|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} south-east of the regional capital Lublin.
