History

The village was first mentioned in 1773 as Nieuw Beierland, and is named after the polder which was created in 1582. Nieuw (new) has been added to distinguish from Oud-Beijerland.{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/nieuwbeijerland |title=Nieuw-Beijerland - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=3 May 2022 |language=nl}} The centre of the village has a grid structure.{{cite news|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu10_01/sten009monu10_01_0105.php |title=Nieuw-Beijerland |author=Ronald Stenvert & Sabine Broekhoven |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |year=2004 |isbn=90-400-9034-3 |language=nl |access-date=3 May 2022}}
