Night Slugs is an English electronic music record label, established in 2010 by Alex Sushon (also known as Bok Bok) and James Connolly (also known as L-Vis 1990). Spin magazine described the label as having "developed one of the most distinctive sounds in U.K. dance music, a mutable hybrid of grime, house, electro, R&B, techno, hip-hop, and dubstep".{{cite web|last1=Sherburne|first1=Philip|title=Night Slugs' Bok Bok on Grime, Texture, and Moving Beyond 'Bass Music'|url=http://www.spin.com/blogs/night-slugs-bok-bok-on-grime-texture-and-moving-beyond-bass-music/|website=SPIN|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=13 February 2013}}

History

Night Slugs was originally started as a London-based club night by DJs/producers Alex Sushon and James Connolly after the two met on Myspace in 2008.{{cite web|url=http://www.elasticartists.net/artist/night-slugs/|title=Night Slugs|accessdate=14 August 2014|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140913063311/http://www.elasticartists.net/artist/night-slugs/|archivedate=13 September 2014|df=dmy-all}}{{cite web|last1=Keeling|first1=Ryan|title=Label of the month: Night Slugs|url=http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1254|website=Resident Advisor|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=1 November 2010}}{{cite web|last1=Richards|first1=Sam|title=Night Slugs, the indefinable dance music team|url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/mar/05/night-slugs-dance-music|website=The Guardian|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=5 March 2011}} The first Night Slugs party was staged at the Redstar in Camberwell in March 2008, though the nights would eventually move to the more centrally located East Village.

After artists featured at the club nights remained unsigned, Sushon and Connolly founded Night Slugs as a record label in January 2010 with the release of Mosca’s Square One EP.{{cite web|last1=McKean|first1=Colin|title=Mosca - Square One|url=http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=7072|website=Resident Advisor|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=25 January 2010}}{{cite web|title=Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 Share the Records That Shaped Night Slugs|url=http://www.self-titledmag.com/2013/06/26/bok-bok-and-l-vis-1990-share-the-records-that-shaped-night-slugs/|website=self-titled|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=26 June 2013}} That same year the label released their first compilation, Night Slugs Allstars Vol. 1.{{cite web|last1=Rosenberg|first1=Tal|title=Various Artists - Night Slugs Allstars Vol.1|url=http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=8537|website=Resident Advisor|accessdate=14 August 2014|date=13 January 2011}}
