Character

Niladri Sarkar is a retired Colonel of the Indian Army, jovial and looking like Santa Claus. He introduces himself as a naturalist, butterfly collector and ornithologist.{{cite news|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/bengali/movies/news/Siraj-is-in-happy-company-Raja-Sen/articleshow/16281888.cms|title=Siraj is in happy company: Raja Sen|newspaper=The Times of India |access-date=March 1, 2018}} The Colonel smokes a pipe and is fond of Coffee. Most of the Colonel stories are narrated by Jayanta Chowdhury, a reporter of Dainik Satyasebak Patrika. Jayanta is a lazy journalist who accompanies him on his missions. Sometimes Mr. K. K. Halder, a bit eccentric retired police officer also joins with colonel Sarkar. Colonel likes quoting Bengali proverbs and nursery rhymes. He maintains a good temperament while solving mystery. Colonel solves complex cases in his own ingenious way.{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=KnPoYxrRfc0C&q=NIladri+Sarkar+Syed+Mustafa&pg=PA3890|title=Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature: Sasay to Zorgot|last=Mohan Lal|year=1992|publisher=Sahitya Akademi |isbn=9788126012213|access-date=March 1, 2018}}{{cite web|url=http://www.washingtonbanglaradio.com/content/94494412-saheb-chatterjee-goyenda-gogol-and-colonel-bengali-new-crime-mystery-detective-movi|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120914062525/http://www.washingtonbanglaradio.com/content/94494412-saheb-chatterjee-goyenda-gogol-and-colonel-bengali-new-crime-mystery-detective-movi|url-status=dead|archive-date=September 14, 2012|title=Saheb Chatterjee in "GOYENDA GOGOL" and "THE COLONEL" Bengali New Crime Mystery Detective Movies|website=washingtonbanglaradio.com|access-date=March 1, 2018}}
