It is formed in Canton by the confluence of the East Branch Nimishillen Creek{{cite web |url={{Gnis3|1039946}} |title=Geographic Names Information System entry for East Branch Nimishillen Creek |accessdate=2007-01-13}} and the Middle Branch Nimishillen Creek.{{cite web |url={{Gnis3|1043262}} |title=Geographic Names Information System entry for Middle Branch Nimishillen Creek |accessdate=2007-01-13}} The East Branch is {{convert|10.4|mi|km}} long and flows through Louisville; the Middle Branch is {{convert|16.6|mi|km}} long. Shortly downstream of this confluence, the stream collects the West Branch Nimishillen Creek,{{cite web |url={{Gnis3|1058121}} |title=Geographic Names Information System entry for West Branch Nimishillen Creek |accessdate=2007-01-13}} which is {{convert|9|mi|km|spell=in}} long and flows through North Canton and Canton.
