The QR family of inline-four piston engines by Nissan were introduced in 2000 and range from {{convert|1998|to|2488|cc|L|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} in displacement. These motors are aluminum, dual overhead camshaft (DOHC), four-valve designs with variable valve timing and optional direct injection. The engine shares much of its architecture with the YD diesel engine.

QR20DE

The {{convert|1998|cc|L|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} QR20DE produces {{convert|140|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}} at 6000 rpm and {{convert|200|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} at 4000 rpm. The bore and stroke is {{convert|89x80.3|mm|2|abbr=on}} and a compression ratio of 9.9:1.{{cite web | url = http://www.sae.org/automag/globalvehicles/06-2001/ | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20040625144514/http://www.sae.org/automag/globalvehicles/06-2001/ | archivedate = 2004-06-25 | title = Two midsize Nissans for Japan and Europe | first = Jack | last = Yamaguchi | publisher = SAE International }} The QR20DE was replaced with the MR20DE engine in most applications in early 2005.

Vehicle applications:

QR20DD

The QR20DD is similar to the QR20DE but features NEO direct injection to improve fuel economy and to reduce emissions.[https://web.archive.org/web/20060114194812/http://www.nissan-global.com/GCC/Japan/NEWS/20000727_0e.html] It produces {{convert|150|PS|kW hp|0|abbr=on}} at 6000 rpm and {{convert|200|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} at 4400 rpm.

Vehicle applications:

QR25DE

The QR25DE is a {{convert|2488|cc|L|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} variant built with cast steel connecting rods, a steel timing chain, counter-rotating balance shafts, and an aluminum intake manifold. The engine bore and stroke is {{convert|89x100|mm|2|abbr=on}} and a compression ratio ranging from 9.5:1 to 10.5:1 depending on the vehicle.{{cite web | url = http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/2006vehicles/altima/specs.shtml | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20061213081514/http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/2006vehicles/altima/specs.shtml | archive-date = 2006-12-13 | work = NissanNewS | title = 2006 Altima Specifications | publisher = Nissan North America }}

Output is rated {{cvt|175|hp|kW PS|0}} at 6000 rpm with {{convert|244|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} of torque at 4000 rpm in the Altima 2.5 and Sentra SE-R models. The Sentra SE-R Spec V originally claimed 180 hp, but this was adjusted downward to 175 once production started in late 2001.{{cite magazine | url = http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/roadtests/0112scc_2002_nissan_sentra_se_r/ | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20061229174710/www.sportcompactcarweb.com/roadtests/0112scc_2002_nissan_sentra_se_r/ | archive-date = 2006-12-29 | title = Road Tests: 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V: Round Two. Ding | first = Josh | last = Jacquot | magazine = SportCompactCar | date = December 2001 | publisher = Primedia }} The redline is 6100 rpm. Altimas that are PZEV compliant create {{convert|170|hp|kW PS|0|abbr=on}} and {{convert|175|lbft|Nm|0|abbr=on}} of torque.[http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/2006vehicles/sentra/specs.shtml] In the 2005+ Nissan Frontier the QR25DE generates {{convert|152|hp|kW PS|0|abbr=on}} and {{convert|171|lbft|Nm|0|abbr=on}} of torque.[http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/2006vehicles/frontier/specs.shtml]

=2007+ QR25DE=

The revised QR25DE found in the 2007+ Sentra, Altima, Rogue, etc. has a number of improvements over the older QR25DE. These include:

  • A simpler, larger diameter single path resin intake manifold replaced the old dual path design. (Note: California emissions models do have a swirl control valve located in the intake)
  • Revised piston crown shape to support a higher compression ratio of 9.6:1.(10.5:1 in Sentra SE-R Spec V.)
  • The balancer system has been moved back slightly from the crank pulley to a more centric location in the block.
  • Revised cam shaft profile.
  • Reinforced connecting rods only available in the Sentra SE-R Spec V 2007-2012 .
  • Reduced friction likely through Nissan's extensive use of coatings on pistons, journal bearings, etc.
  • Additional engine mount on the top of the motor, pulley side.
  • Higher rev limit and improved power output.

QR25DD

The QR25DD is similar to the QR25DE but increases the compression ratio to 10.5:1 and includes direct injection. This engine is also the first QR to use DLC coating on the valve lifter buckets for reduced friction. It produces {{convert|125|kW|PS hp|0|abbr=on}} at 5600 rpm and {{convert|245|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} at 4000 rpm.

Vehicle applications:

QR25DER

The QR25DER is similar to the QR25DE but has a supercharger for increased power and is coupled with a {{convert|15|kW|abbr=on}} electric motor, Dual Clutch System, and lithium-ion battery for increased fuel efficiency. The engine has a compression ratio of 9.1:1 (10.0:1 in 2014 Infiniti QX70{{citation | title = Infiniti QX70 | type = Electronic Service Manual | page = EM-154 | date = 2014 | publisher = Nissan North America }}) and produces a combined {{cvt|250|hp|kW PS|0}} at 5600 rpm and {{convert|243|lbft|Nm|0|abbr=on}} at 3600 rpm.{{cite web |url=http://nissannews.com/en-CA/nissan/canada/presskits/ca-2014-nissan-pathfinder-hybrid/releases/2014-nissan-pathfinder-hybrid-key-dimensions-and-specifications-2 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140426235939/http://nissannews.com/en-CA/nissan/canada/presskits/ca-2014-nissan-pathfinder-hybrid/releases/2014-nissan-pathfinder-hybrid-key-dimensions-and-specifications-2 |archive-date=2014-04-26 |title= 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid Specifications | work = Nissan Online Newsroom | publisher = Nissan Canada }}
