Innovations
Njection was originally intended to provide a news and communication forum for car enthusiasts. When it became apparent that speed traps were a big focus in the forum, the Speedtrap feature was added.{{citation|url=https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=4807969&page=1|title=Now GPS Can Tell You Where the Cops Are|last=Squatriglia|first=Chuck|magazine=Wired|date= May 8, 2008}} The Speedtrap Mashup was the first online site to use the Bing Maps Platform to allow users to contribute in real time the location of speed traps around the world.
In 2009, the Speedtrap mapping system was upgraded to allow users to add traffic accidents and fatalities{{citation|url=http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-10209436-48.html|title=Is your commute a death trap?|last=Yvkoff|first=Liane|work=CNET|date=April 1, 2009|access-date=July 2, 2011|archive-date=November 12, 2010|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101112191813/http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-10209436-48.html|url-status=dead}} and traffic flow and speed to the maps. The Speedtrap functionality relies on drivers to update the map; therefore, the functionality is dependent on the information provided by registered users.{{citation|title=Have Smartphone, Can Travel|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/08/automobiles/08PHONE.html|last=Quain|first=John|work=New York Times|date=March 6, 2009}}
In 2008, the company developed the Njection Mobile (NMobile) application for the iPhone.{{citation|url=http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2008/02/njectioncom-uploads-worldwide-speedtrap-map/|title=Njection.com Uploads Worldwide Speedtrap Map|last=Farago|first=Robert|work=The Truth About Cars|date=February 13, 2008}} This application was the first non-Microsoft application to use the Bing Maps Platform and the Active Intelligence Selection System to provide access to speed trap information while driving.{{Cite web|title=Njection Mobile (Speed traps notifier) - Cell Phone News|url=http://ipod-iphone.blogspot.com/2008/11/njection-mobile-speed-traps-notifier.html|access-date=2021-03-16|website=ipod-iphone.blogspot.com}} Although it was initially offered as a paid application, the NMobile application has been available as a free download since 2009. In 2008, the Microsoft-enabled application also became available as a downloadable file on Garmin GPS units.{{Cite web |date=27 March 2008 |title=Njection and Garmin partner to identify speed traps |url=https://www.autoblog.com/news/njection-and-garmin-partner-to-identify-speed-traps |access-date=2025-05-04 |website=Autoblog |language=en}} That functionality is no longer available through Garmin.
