Mainland China E71 (RM-493) differences
The E71 currently being sold in mainland China does not have Wi-Fi 802.11b/g WLAN networking or a back mounted camera. 3G was also excluded, because licenses for 3G in mainland China were only approved in early 2009.[https://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/05/business/worldbusiness/05iht-col06.1.19085132.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print China's 3G plan puts users in a tough spot]
There is no reduction in price for phones lacking these features and a firmware update will not bring them back because the hardware itself is missing.[https://archive.today/20120710234203/http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=communicators&view=by_date_ascending&message.id=35284%23M35284 Chinese version lacking 3G/WCDMA, WiFi/WLAN, and front mounted camera] The E71 sold in Macau and Hong Kong do not lack these features. The software bundled with the Chinese version is slightly different, as it also has a QQ client, along with some other Chinese specific programs.
Reception
The E71 received highly positive critical reception. It was widely praised for its battery life, software features like push email, slim design and hardware including keyboard.{{Cite web|url=https://www.cnet.com/au/reviews/nokia-e71-review/|title = Nokia E71 review: Nokia E71}}{{Cite web |url=http://www.s21.com/nokia-e71.htm |title=Nokia E71 review | S21 |access-date=2018-11-17 |archive-date=2018-11-17 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181117194520/http://www.s21.com/nokia-e71.htm |url-status=dead }}{{Cite web|url=https://www.knowyourmobile.com/nokia/3061/nokia-e71-review|title = Mobile Phone Comparions, Specifications & Features + Expert Opinions|date = 25 July 2021}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.zdnet.com/article/review-the-nokia-e71-is-a-tough-device-to-beat/|title = Review: The Nokia E71 is a tough device to beat|website = ZDNet}} A Trusted Reviews reviewer gave it 5 stars out of 5.{{Cite web|url=https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/nokia-e71|title=Nokia E71 Review|date=8 July 2008 }} CNET UK wrote: "While we don't like the camera, we think the rest is pretty close to perfect".{{Cite web|url=https://www.cnet.com/uk/reviews/nokia-e71-review/|title = Nokia E71 review: Nokia E71}} TechRadar called it a "terrific" device in a "well thought out package", listing the lack of a 3.5 mm headphone jack as the only disadvantage.{{Cite web|url=https://www.techradar.com/uk/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/nokia-e71-437065/review|title=Nokia E71 review|date=3 June 2009}}
