In skateboarding, a nollie, short for "nose ollie", is an ollie executed at the front of the board while the rider is positioned in their natural stance. Professional skateboarders Karl Watson, Shuriken Shannon, Tuukka Korhonen, and Sean Malto have been recognized for their ability to perform the nollie trick.{{cite web|title=Nollie|url=http://skateboard.about.com/od/skateboardingdictionary/g/GlosNollie.htm|work=About.com – Sports: Skateboarding|publisher=About.com|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=Steve Cave|author2=Michael Andrus |year=2012}}{{cite web|title=How-To Skateboarding: Nollie with Shuriken Shannon|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo516iAEK60 |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/Yo516iAEK60 |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=RIDEChannel|format=Video upload|date=11 June 2012}}{{cbignore}}{{cite web|title=The Berrics - Trickipedia - Nollie|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ5cbDuuM5s |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110609180634/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ5cbDuuM5s&gl=US&hl=en&has_verified=1 |archive-date=2011-06-09 |url-status=dead|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=TrEfLiPz|format=Video upload|date=22 December 2009}}{{cite web|title=How To Nollie by Sean Malto|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk4Wpfm8-sw |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/Rk4Wpfm8-sw |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=Chris Morrow|format=Video upload|date=22 June 2010}}{{cbignore}} A nollie can be easily confused with a fakie ollie, whereby the rider uses their original foot position but is instead riding backwards ("fakie" is the skateboard term for riding in a backwards direction, in your usual stance, while riding the opposite of your usual stance is referred to as "switch"{{cite web|title=Skateboarding Glossary|url=http://www.exploratorium.edu/skateboarding/largeglossary.html|work=exploratorium – skateboard science|publisher=Exploratorium {{!}} The museum of science, art and human perception|accessdate=8 December 2012|year=2012}}).
Description
A nollie is a variation of the ollie, where the skateboarder uses the front foot to push the nose of the skateboard down and the back foot is slid in a backwards direction to achieve lift-off from the ground; this is the opposite of an ollie, whereby the rider uses the back foot to push down the tail and the front foot to slide forwards. It is similar to a switch ollie riding backwards and Malto has stated in an instructional video: "It's more a like a switch ollie, but from the front."{{cite web|title=Nollie|url=http://www.skateboardhere.com/nollie.html|work=skateboardhere.com|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=Nan Adie|year=2012}}
Execution
Variations
Like ollies, a nollie can be combined with other tricks to form variations. For example, a nollie can be combined with a kickflip to create a nollie flip,{{cite web|title=The Berrics - Trickipedia-nollie flip with benny fairfax|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbI_Cba0i6Q |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/SbI_Cba0i6Q |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=TheBerrics11|format=Video upload|date=12 January 2009}}{{cbignore}} or a nollie can be combined with a 360-flip to create a nollie 360-flip.{{cite web|title=The Berrics Trickipedia Paul Rodriguez Nollie 360 Flip|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtXgPkrMPXQ |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/LtXgPkrMPXQ |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=skatemoviesking|format=Video upload|date=12 March 2012}}{{cbignore}}
= Nollie 180=
A nollie whereby the skateboarder and the skateboard rotate 180-degrees after leaving the ground. Both the skateboarder and the skateboard rotate in the same direction, and frontside and backside variations can be performed.{{cite web|title=How-To Skateboarding: Nollie Backside 180 with Shuriken Shannon|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkYAfqTGfbw |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/PkYAfqTGfbw |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=RIDEChannel|author2=Shuriken Shannon |format=Video upload|date=11 May 2012}}{{cbignore}} After landing the trick, the skateboarder will be facing in the opposite direction.{{cite web|title=how to nollie 180|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNSUOINmsRo |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/BNSUOINmsRo |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=twelvedaimonds|format=Video upload|date=5 July 2008}}{{cbignore}}{{cite web|title=How-To Skateboarding: Nollie Backside 180 With Brian Downey|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6DkecApPk4 |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/o6DkecApPk4 |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=RIDEChannel|format=Video upload|date=10 October 2012}}{{cbignore}}

=Nollie heelflip=
A heelflip that is executed at the front of the board, whereby the heel of the back foot executes the flip. Professional skateboarder Josiah Gatlyn has stated that the variation is "basically, just like a backward switch heel[flip]".{{cite web|title=How-To Skateboarding: Nollie Heelflip with Josiah Gatlyn|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI4WbfXfC4Y |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/DI4WbfXfC4Y |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=RIDEChannel|format=Video upload|date=15 March 2012}}{{cbignore}}
=Helipop=
Also known as a 'nollie backside 360' (not caballerial, caballerial is fakie), this is a nollie variation whereby the skateboarder and the skateboard rotate 360-degrees after leaving the ground. The trick was invented by Rodney Mullen and can be seen in the Almost: Round Three video during the section when Mullen is skateboarding on the Hollywood Stars in Los Angeles, California, United States (US).{{cite web|title=Helipop Trick Description|url=http://www.skateboardhere.com/helipop.html|work=Skateboardhere.com|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=Nan Adie|year=2012}}{{cite web|title=Rodney Mullen Almost Round 3|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL2xpZ1GUsU |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121222081253/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL2xpZ1GUsU |archive-date=2012-12-22 |url-status=dead|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=8 December 2012|author=TheLaybackRollout|format=Video upload|date=7 February 2012}}

Notable nollies
Professional skateboarder Danny Way executed a nollie down the famous Carlsbad Gap (no longer in existence), located in California, United States (US). The location was notorious for its degree of difficulty due to the upward angle of the landing area.{{cite web|title=Best Carlsbad Gap Montage Ever Made|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUHlmz75IEE |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/varchive/youtube/20211214/MUHlmz75IEE |archive-date=2021-12-14 |url-status=live|work=YouTube|publisher=Google, Inc|accessdate=9 December 2012|author=thebaconskater|format=Video upload|date=4 November 2010}}{{cbignore}}
