Background and release

For the release of Nostalgia, Victon was a six-member group, with member Han Seung-woo absent as he was promoting with X1.{{Cite web|url=https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/now/article/609/0000183926|script-title=ko:빅톤, 11월 4일 컴백 확정…한승우 제외 첫 6인 체제(공식)|website=Newsen|via=Naver|language=ko|date=2019-10-07|access-date=2019-10-21}} The EP was the group's first comeback in nearly 18 months, and following the announcement of their comeback through social media, the group entered the Billboard Social 50 chart for the first time since their debut.{{cite magazine|url=https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/8542481/victon-debut-social-50-chart-nostalgic-night|title=Victon Make Social 50 Debut Ahead Of Comeback With 'Nostalgic Night'|magazine=Billboard|last=Benjamin|first=Jeff|date=2019-11-04|access-date=2021-05-04|language=en|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200425094157if_/https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/8542481/victon-debut-social-50-chart-nostalgic-night|archive-date=2020-04-25}}

Critical reception & commercial performance

For the title track "Nostalgic Night", the group won their first music show win since the group's debut in 2016.{{Cite web|url=https://news.wowtv.co.kr/NewsCenter/News/Read?articleId=A201911130117&t=NN|script-title=ko:빅톤, 데뷔 3년 만에 첫 음악방송 1위 쾌거|website=Hankyung TV|date=2019-11-13|access-date=2021-03-26|language=ko}} Following its release, the track charted at number 24 on Gaon's component weekly Download Chart.{{cite web|url=http://www.gaonchart.co.kr/main/section/chart/online.gaon?serviceGbn=S1020&termGbn=week&hitYear=2019&targetTime=45&nationGbn=T|script-title=ko:2019년 45주차 Download Chart|work=Gaon Download Chart|publisher=Korea Music Content Association|access-date=2021-05-02}}

Reviews noted the album's much darker tone and the group's departure from its previous releases as they shied away from the more bright and upbeat musical style which they were initially known for.{{cite magazine|script-title=ko:[핫 이슈] '첫 6인 체제' 빅톤, '그리운 밤' MV 티저 공개! 느와르 영화 같은 강렬함 선사|url=http://billboard.co.kr/main/news/view/237|magazine=Billboard Korea|date=October 30, 2019|language=ko}} In its review of the album, English-language K-pop website SeoulBeats commented: "The album breaks away from their bubbly and anthemic roots for a sound more their own, a sound first shown with their preceding single, 'Time of Sorrow'."{{cite web|title=Victon Returns Filled with "Nostalgia"|url=https://seoulbeats.com/2019/11/victon-returns-filled-with-nostalgia/|publisher=seoulbeats.com|date=November 9, 2019}}
