It was described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. The wingspan is 17–21 mm.[http://www.microlepidoptera.nl/soorten/species.php?speciescode=331090&p=1 Microlepidoptera.nl] There are two generations per year with adults on wing from May to early October.[http://webh01.ua.ac.be/vve/Checklists/Lepidoptera/Gelechiidae/Nverbascella.htm Lepidoptera of Belgium] The caterpillars feed on hoary mullein Verbascum pulverulentum and some other species of mullein.
