Object Orange
Object Orange (formerly Detroit. Demolition. Disneyland.[http://www.thedetroiter.com/nov05/disneydemolition.php The Detroiter article], based on an anonymous e-mail from the artists) is an artistic project in Detroit, Michigan which seeks to draw attention to dilapidated buildings by painting them orange.[http://www.goodmagazine.com/issue001/Bright_Orange Good Magazine], Issue 001
The project is composed of local artists, who go by their first names only (Christian, Jacques, Greg, Mike[http://www.glrc.org/transcript.php3?story_id=2911 Urban Blight Gets a Paint Job], Transcript from segment by the Great Lakes Radio Consortium on January 23, 2006 and Andy[http://www.absolutemichigan.com/dig/michigan/detroits-object-orange-goes-national/ Object Orange Goes National], Article in Absolute Michigan on December 12, 2006) for fear of prosecution. James Canning, communications coordinator for the Mayor's office of Detroit, views the artists' actions as unlawful and vandalism, stating that any demolitions which took place following the project's painting expeditions have been coincidental.Interview on NPR's Day to Day program, December 7, 2006
The artists chose the color "Tiggerific Orange[http://disney.go.com/disneyhome/disneypaints.html Disney paint catalog]" from the Disney paint catalog by Behr for its similarity to traffic cones and the safety orange worn by hunters.
