Co-creator Suki Vatter previously worked for Apple's product marketing department and the product was first targeted to iPod users. Vatter, who created the product with her husband Brian, said that the vibrator is designed to be "socially acceptable".{{cite web |title=Good vibes from Apple's iPod |url=http://www.australianit.news.com.au/story/0,24897,21100674-15309,00.html |archive-url=https://archive.today/20121215183459/http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/good-vibes-from-apples-ipod/story-e6frg6n6-1111112873338 |archive-date=2012-12-15 |accessdate=2008-07-22 |publisher=Australian IT}} One journalist commented that the packaging looked like "something that might have come straight from the iPod factory".

The website for the product also included the series "ClubVibe" which allows users to anonymously share playlists and experiences.

The product was made compatible with the iPhone in January 2008 and now responds to ringtones and voice calls.{{cite web |last=Chen |first=Jason |date=3 January 2008 |title=OhMiBod iPod Vibrator Getting iPhone Compatibility |url=https://gizmodo.com/340114/ohmibod-ipod-vibrator-getting-iphone-compatibility |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130124023555/http://gizmodo.com/340114/ohmibod-ipod-vibrator-getting-iphone-compatibility |archive-date=2013-01-24 |accessdate=2008-07-22 |publisher=Gizmodo}} In addition to the upgrade, a smaller and cheaper 'nano' versions of the toy was released.

A 2008 review in MacLife pointed out that the vibrator could be heard "distractingly loud" over the iPod's earbuds.{{cite web |date=2008-12-11 |title=OhMiBod Naughtibod |url=http://www.maclife.com/article/reviews/ohmibod_naughtibod |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130128032139/http://www.maclife.com/article/reviews/ohmibod_naughtibod |archive-date=2013-01-28 |accessdate=2014-03-11 |publisher=Maclife.com}}
