History
The previous depot at the site was built in 1924 for the Seaboard Air Line Railway, and was demolished in 2014.{{cite web|url=http://www.trainweb.org/usarail/okeechobee.htm
|accessdate=2020-01-22|title=Amtrak - Okeechobee, FL (OKE)|date=2020-01-22|publisher=USA Rail Guide (TrainWeb)}} Amtrak currently uses an adjacent shelter constructed in 2011. Built of red brick-accented with cream-colored, rock-faced stonework, the shelter has a waiting room with large windows. The $1.5 million project was funded through Amtrak's "Mobility First" initiative under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
On November 10, 2024, the Silver Star was merged with the {{lnl|Amtrak|Capitol Limited}} as the Floridian.{{Cite press release |date=September 23, 2024 |title=Amtrak Launching the Floridian, with Daily Service Between Chicago and Miami |url=https://media.amtrak.com/2024/09/amtrak-launching-the-floridian-with-daily-service-between-chicago-and-miami/ |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240923190514/https://media.amtrak.com/2024/09/amtrak-launching-the-floridian-with-daily-service-between-chicago-and-miami/ |archive-date=September 23, 2024 |access-date=September 23, 2024 |publisher=Amtrak}}
