Route description

SH-127 begins in downtown Jay at the intersection of South Main Street (US-59/SH-10/SH-20) and South 5th Street. From this point, SH-127 eastbound proceeds north along South 5th Street to Cherokee Street, where it turns west. It turns back to the north along North 14th Street, which it follows out of Jay.{{google maps|url=https://maps.google.com/maps?q=zena,+OK&hl=en&ll=36.460916,-94.805145&spn=0.113762,0.2635&sll=36.483417,-94.791756&sspn=0.113729,0.2635&hnear=Zena,+Delaware,+Oklahoma&t=m&z=13|accessdate=December 30, 2012}} Eastbound SH-127 then turns northwest, passing through a landform known as Muskrat Hollow. The highway then turns to the north, emerging into Courthouse Prairie. It makes a sharp turn to the east, and then to the north, before reaching Zena. It heads generally east from Zena, with four sharp curves between the unincorporated place and the highway's eastern terminus. SH-127 ends at US-59/SH-10 between Jay and Grove.{{cite map|publisher=DeLorme|title=Oklahoma Atlas and Gazetteer|page=27|section=|scale=1:200,000|date=2006}} While SH-127 is just over {{convert|13|mi|km}} long, the distance between its two termini along US-59/SH-10 is only {{convert|5.6|mi|km}}.{{google maps|title=Distance between Jay and the eastern terminus of SH-127|url=https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=S+Main+St&daddr=OK-10+N%2FUS-59+N&hl=en&ll=36.460916,-94.791241&spn=0.113762,0.2635&sll=36.416897,-94.793215&sspn=0.028457,0.065875&geocode=FQK-KwIdloFZ-g%3BFcrgLAIddbxZ-g&mra=dme&mrsp=0&sz=15&t=m&z=13|accessdate=December 30, 2012}}

History

SH-127 first appears on the state highway map of 1959, following the same general route as it does today, although it was a gravel highway rather than being paved.{{cite map|publisher=Oklahoma Department of Highways|title=1959 Oklahoma Road Map|url=http://www.odot.org/hqdiv/p-r-div/maps/state-maps/pdfs/1959.pdf|accessdate=December 30, 2012 }} The first section of the highway to be upgraded was the section between Zena and the eastern terminus; this segment was paved by 1967.{{cite map|publisher=Oklahoma Department of Highways|title=Oklahoma 1967|url=http://www.odot.org/hqdiv/p-r-div/maps/state-maps/pdfs/1967.pdf|accessdate=December 30, 2012 }} The remainder of the route was paved by 1975, resulting in its present-day configuration.{{cite map|publisher=Oklahoma Department of Highways|title=Official State Highway Map|edition=1975|url=http://www.odot.org/hqdiv/p-r-div/maps/state-maps/pdfs/1975.pdf|accessdate=December 30, 2012}}
