The Old Brahmaputra River ({{langx|bn|পুরাতন ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদী|Purātana Brahmaputra Nadī}}) is a distributary of the Brahmaputra River in north-central Bangladesh.{{cite web|title=Old Brahmaputra River|url=http://www.geonames.org/1208092/brahmaputra%20river.html|accessdate=10 October 2017}} Historically it constituted the main stem of the Brahmaputra, however, the larger river's primary outflow was redirected via the Jamuna River after the 1762 Arakan earthquake.{{cite news |url=http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/08/flooding-concerns-return-northeastern-india-170812072447986.html|title=Flooding concerns return to northeastern India|publisher=Al Jazeera}} Today, the Old Brahmaputra has been relegated to a minor river with much less flow than its former self. The river branches off from the Brahmaputra in Jamalpur District and Mymensingh then flows southeasterly for approximately {{cvt|200|km|mi}} before meeting the Meghna River in Kishoreganj District.{{cite web |title=Old Brahmaputra River|url=https://en.banglapedia.org/index.php/Old_Brahmaputra_River |website=en.banglapedia.org |publisher=Banglapedia|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230416100253/https://en.banglapedia.org/index.php/Old_Brahmaputra_River |archive-date=2023-04-16 }}{{cite news |title=Brahmaputra runs dry in Mymensingh |url=https://www.thedailystar.net/environment/pollution/water-pollution/news/brahmaputra-runs-dry-mymensingh-3330301 |work=The Daily Star |date=27 May 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240613021219/https://www.thedailystar.net/environment/pollution/water-pollution/news/brahmaputra-runs-dry-mymensingh-3330301 |archive-date=2024-06-13 |language=en}}
