Sheila O'Malley of RogerEbert.com gave the film three out of four stars and wrote, "Clocking in at 51 minutes, the film is all mood, all rhythm, with a kaleidoscope structure and undulating ever-shifting visuals in a constant state of flux. It's not a 'story' so much as a tone-poem collage about technology, knowledge, innocence/experience, and the potential end of the world. Maybe something new will be born from the ashes, although considering the evidence that something may very well be a monster."{{cite web|url=https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/once-within-a-time-movie-review-2023|title=Once Within a Time|website=RogerEbert.com|first=Sheila|last=O'Malley|date=October 13, 2023|access-date=July 5, 2024}}
