Operation Silver A was a World War II military operation against the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.{{Cite web|date=2007-03-02|title=Operation Silver A: a new two-part drama looks at the ill-fated mission of Czech paratroopers during WW II|url=https://english.radio.cz/operation-silver-a-a-new-two-part-drama-looks-ill-fated-mission-czech-8610323|access-date=2020-09-08|website=Radio Prague International|language=en}} It was organized by the intelligence division of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile with the assistance of the British SOE and RAF.

It was to parachute a three-man team into the Kolin area to establish liaison with the resistance forces in German-occupied Czechoslovakia (28 December 1941/2 July 1942).{{Cite web|title=Silver A {{!}} Operations & Codenames of WWII|url=https://codenames.info/operation/silver-b/|access-date=2020-09-08|website=codenames.info}}

The three-man team consisted of Alfréd Bartoš, team leader; Josef Valčík, his deputy—who would later play a part in Operation Anthropoid—and Jiří Potůček, their cryptographer and radio operator.
