Ophichthus alleni is an eel in the family Ophichthidae.[http://www.fishbase.org/summary/Ophichthus-alleni.html Ophichthus alleni] at www.fishbase.org. It was described by John E. McCosker in 2010.McCosker, J. E., 2010 (14 June) [ref. 30840] Deepwater Indo-Pacific species of the snake-eel genus Ophichthus (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae), with the description of nine new species. Zootaxa No. 2505: 1-39. It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel known from Australia, in the western Pacific Ocean. It dwells at a depth range of {{convert|115|to|200|m|ft|abbr=on}}. Females can reach a maximum total length of {{convert|76|cm|in|abbr=on}}.
Etymology
The species epithet alleni refers to Gerald R.
